On behalf of ASTA, it is our duty to provide our members information regarding legislative actions impacting our industry both locally, and nationally. Please see below for this month’s update from ASTA Associate Director and Registered Lobbyist, Reece Hester.
Tinted Window Inspections Hey driver …..lower that window!
Senate Bill 64 will most likely not pass. Read more…..
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED: AN ACT TO REMOVE THE SAFETY INSPECTION OF TINTED WINDOWS
AND TO REQUIRE A DRIVER TO LOWER A WINDOW upon approach of a law enforcement officer.
SB64 has two parts. (1), removing window tinting and, (2), requiring a window roll down upon approach from a law enforcement officer. #2 is a no brainer. This should be law period. #1 continues to have tint rating issues with respect to “what’s too much” and that some vehicles actually need tinting. This bill proposes elimination of tinting all together. Some reading this may agree, or disagree. Your thoughts?
Safety Inspection Fees
The ‘go to’ travel choice is by personal vehicles these days, and we all want to cover our customers when it comes to safety, and to do it right. We are currently charging the motoring public $13.60 per inspection. Our involvements of vehicles in the bays take quite a bit more time than the charged fee. We know the occasional uncovering of a repair needed to provide a safe vehicle for the road and make the inspection worthwhile. However, that’s what the inspection is all about and it’s still valuable time involvement w/ technician focus. Emissions inspection counties are becoming fewer and many businesses are weighing the effort to continue the inspection process. As an ASTA member, do you consider it time for an increase to the inspection fee? We need your feedback!
