The Division of Environmental Assistance and Customer Service (DEACS) is a non-regulatory division of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality that assists organizations across North Carolina to understand and navigate environmental requirements. Regional assistance coordinators assist with regulatory program questions and DEACS houses the state’s Recycling Program, so check out the website for wide array of useful information. Staff also support and promote strategies to go beyond what is required by regulation to improve the environment and identify associated client cost savings. The assistance is provided at no cost. Programs include:
- The Environmental Stewardship Initiative is an assistance and recognition program with members across North Carolina that promotes pollution prevention strategies, provides training on environmental management systems, and offers networking opportunities. Assistance is provided to improve energy and water efficiency, reduce solid and hazardous materials, and implement sustainability programs.
- The Waste Reduction Partners is a group of retired scientists and engineers that provide energy, water and solid waste reduction assistance, including on-site assessments. - The Small Business Assistance Program staff communicates with small businesses about determining applicable requirements under the Clean Air Act (CAA), rights of small businesses under the CAA, compliance methods and acceptable control technologies, pollution prevention, accidental release prevention and detection, and audit programs.
